CATHY BLANCHFLOWER

Cathy Blanchflower was born in 1971 in Brighton, England. She completed a Bachelor of Arts at Curtin University of Technology, Perth in 1992, before moving to Melbourne where she currently lives and works.

Since her first solo exhibition at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) in 1995, Cathy has held regular solo shows at Goddard de Fiddes Contemporary Art, Perth; Annandale Galleries, Sydney; and Karen Woodbury Gallery, Melbourne.

She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions both locally and abroad, including: Silver, Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, Perth (2008); Idiosyncrasy II, Paintings and Sculptures, Johnston Gallery, Mosman Park, WA (2008); Assemblage 2, Sydney Non Objective, Sydney (2008); The Colour of Music, Adelaide Central Gallery, Adelaide (2006); The Sound of Painting, George Adams Gallery, Victorian Arts Centre, Melbourne (2005); Pink Slips and Golden Parachutes, The Project, New York (2003); In Abstract, Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery, University of Western Australia, Perth (2002); Good Vibrations, Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne (2002); Phenomena: New Painting In Australia, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney (2001); NeoGeo, John Curtin Gallery, Curtin University, Perth (2001); and Beyond the Grid, Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth (1999).

Among her various awards and achievements, Cathy has received an Artflight Grant (1999) and Youth Creative Development Fellowship (1997), both from ArtsWA; the John Curtin Gallery Print Commission (1997), and the Westpac Art Award (1993).
Her work features in several major public and corporate collections throughout Australia, including the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth; Curtin University of Technology, Perth; the University of Sydney, New South Wales; Artbank; Bankwest; Murdoch University, WA; Wesfarmers, Perth; and WMC, Perth.

Cathy held a retrospective at John Curtin Gallery, Perth in 2009.
