MARIE HAGERTY

Born Sydney, Australia in 1964, Marie Hagerty lives and works in Canberra. In 1987 she graduated from the Canberra Institute of the Arts, Canberra.


Marie has held in excess of 15 solo exhibitions in Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne. In addition to this she has also participated in numerous group exhibitions including: Sweet Spot, Ian Potter Museum of Art, Melbourne (2009); Wynne Prize, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney (2006); Wynne Prize, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney (2005); Conrad Jupitars Art Prize, Gold Coast City Art Gallery, Surfers Paradise (2005); Into the Quadrangle, RMIT University, Project Space, Melbourne (2005); Contemporary Australian Culture Now, National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne (2004); Geelong Gallery Contemporary Art Prize, Geelong Regional Gallery, Victoria (2004); Rotary World Convention, Queensland Art Gallery (2003); Scratch the surface, Canberra Contemporary Art Space, Canberra (2003); Public Artworks at the Australian National University, Canberra (2001); On the Brink, Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne (2000); Roche Contemporary Art Prize, Sydney (2000) and Moet & Chandon Travelling Exhibition, Touring Australia (1995).


Among her various awards and achievements, Maire has been awarded an residency in Switzerland through the Australian National University, Canberra (2008), the Conrad Jupitars Art Prize, Gold Coast City Art Gallery, Queensland (2005); The John McCaughey Memorial Prize (2004); The Canberra Art Prize, Canberra (2003) and an Art CAPO Grant to travel to Spain; (1999).


Her work is widely admired and features in several major public collections including: Ballarat Regional Art Gallery, Ballarat; Gold Coast City Art Gallery; National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; Canberra Museum and Gallery and Australian National University, Canberra.
