McLEAN EDWARDS
Selected Biography
Born in 1972, Darwin, Australia, McLean studied at Canberra School of Art in Fine Arts, and currently lives and works in Sydney, Australia.
Since his first solo exhibition Portraits at Legge Gallery, Sydney in 1995, McLean has held in excess of 15 solo exhibitions that include: The End, Martin Browne Fine Art, Sydney (2008); McLean Edwards, Martin Browne Fine Art, Sydney (2007); Non-Fiction, Martin Browne Fine Art, Sydney (2006); The Revenge of Maggie Dubrovnik, Martin Browne Fine Art at Silvershot, Melbourne (2005); Mexican Brides, Martin Browne Fine Art, Sydney (2004); Down and Dirty For The Lord, Martin Browne Fine Art, Sydney (2003); Year of the Rat Martin Browne Fine Art, Sydney (2002); Recent Paintings and Drawings Chapman Gallery, Canberra (2002); Headway, Legge Gallery, Sydney (2001); I wanted to be normal for You, Legge Gallery, Sydney (2000) and The trembling man paintings, Chapman Gallery, Canberra (2000).
He has also participated in numerous significant group exhibitions including: NEW: Selected Recent Acquisitions 2007-2008, UQ Art Museum, Brisbane (2008/09); Martin Browne Fine Art, Melbourne Art Fair (2008, 2006); Archibald Prize, Finalist, Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney (2007, 2006 & 2004); Martin Browne Fine Art, Auckland Art Fair, Auckland, New Zealand (2005); Sulman Prize, Finalist, Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney (2004 & 2001); A Selection of 20th Century Contemporary Australian and New Zealand Art, Martin Browne Fine Art, Sydney (2003); Contemporary Art: Allen Allen & Hemsley Collection, UTS Gallery, Sydney (1999) & Redlands Art Prize, Mosman, Sydney (1999).
Edwards was an Archibald Prize finalist in 2007, 2006 and 2004. He is collected widely in public institutions including the University of Queensland Art Museum, Brisbane; Artbank; Orange Regional Art Gallery, Orange and the Australian War Memorial Museum, Canberra.
