New Artist - Rhys Lee

We are very pleased to announce that we now represent Rhys Lee. Rhys will be holding his first solo exhibition with us in April 2009. We look forward to presenting his work.

The Melbourne Art Fair

The Melbourne Art Fair period was a busy and successful time for the gallery. We are pleased to announce that six of Simon Obarzanek’s works from his series Untitled Movement No.1 (2008) will be going to the Artbank collection.

Exhibitions

Six of Simon Obarzanek’s 80 faces works have been selected to be included in an exhibition Order and disorder: Archives in photography, curated by Maggie Finch at the NGV International. Simon is now in Shanghai after being selected as the winner of the second Melbourne Airport Innovators Award at Linden Centre for Contemporary Arts, St Kilda.

Sam Jinks’ first solo show with us opens 15 October and runs until 8 November. Sam is rapidly gaining international acclaim, with four sculptures purchased by the Museum of International Contemporary Figurative Sculpture (MEFIC), Spain: http://www.mefic.es/

Lisa Roet is exhibiting her new series Mugsy 2008 at 24HR Art, Northern Territory Centre for Contemporary Art, Darwin that runs from the 12 September until the 18 October:

Lily Hibberd is exhibiting Endless Summer at the Experimental Art Foundation, Adelaide that runs until 27 September 2008: http://www.eaf.asn.au/ Lily has also recently been the recipient of an Australia Council Established Artist Grant.

Other News

Michael Cusack has been selected as a finalist in the Grafton Regional Gallery’s Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award (JADA). The exhibition will tour in 2010 travelling to various regional galleries, including Mosman, Latrobe and Hawkesbury.

Magda Matwiejew’s film Broken Spell 2008, has been selected as a finalist in the 2008 Enhance TV ATOM Awards in the ‘Best Experimental’ category. Magda’s film INSECT 2006 has been selected for inclusion in the International Exhibition of Video Art and Cinema Beyond (INVIDEO) 2008, Milan.

Congratulations go to Lisa Roet for being on the front cover of the current issue of Photofile! Lisa is also in the 2008 Robert Jacks Drawing Prize that will be showing at Bendigo Art Gallery from 6 September to the 19 October.

We are exhibiting new work by Michael Doolan at the Depot Gallery in Sydney from 11 November to 22 November. The exhibition will be available to preview in Melbourne prior to this.
